Investigators probing the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in the Rockaways in November 2001 reportedly found signs of damage to the tail fin of a similar plane, prompting regulators to weigh further inspections of the Airbus A300 fleet. The National Transportation Safety Board said an inspection last week of an Airbus A300-600 at American's maintenance base in Tulsa, Okla., revealed signs that internal layers of the carbon-composite tail fin had begun to separate at the point where it connects to the fuselage. Additional tests using ultrasound will be performed to confirm what was found -- potential flaws that were not present when the plane was manufactured, board officials said.
